In summer 2015 the Institute of Computer Systems ONPU together with the University of Augsburg, Germany, held students summer school, which included not only theoretical training lecture and reading material, but also a great practical part.
Ukrainian and German students have joined forces to create a number of projects on the basis of the studied technologies. These were projects to develop information retrieval system based on dynamically updated data about automated authentication using the NFC-technology for students, creating three-dimensional models and territories through technology ONPU Open Street Map, as well as communication platforms for project participants using cloud information technology OpenSlides. Communication between Odessa and German experts was in English.
During the summer school students held interesting meetings with the employees of the Odessa port and the city administration. The most inteseting projects were those concerning open government and cooperation of citizens and authorities. Students spoke about the practice of direct broadcasts weekly hardware meeting the mayor, the executive committee meetings and sessions of the City Council. German experts noted the importance of projects on government transparency and correctness of the chosen priorities.
One of the most successful results of intensive work of Ukrainian and German students was the project “Electronic Odessa city.” The project is a web application that contains information about the sights of Odessa, which is provided to the user in the form of maps with marked town venues. Also, the user can check what he has learned about Odessa in an interactive, playful way.
After school, all participants received certificates of international standard.
